dana 44 vs dana 30

first off im not sure what i have on my 02 TJ but i do know for sure that they're not dana 44's. i also know that both of my axles have been re-geared and are 4.88's. so my question is whats the difference between dana 44's and everything else? i couldn't find this as a forum already and i couldn't find much on google that explains the difference.

The dana 30 will stand up fine for anything your doing. Just upgrade the shafts to chromos and you will be fine. i have known people to run 35's or even up to 37s fine. but the main area where the Dana 44 is stronger when compared to the Dana 30 is in the ring-and-pinion. The Dana 30's ring gear has a diameter of 7.2 inches, while the Dana 44 features a ring gear with a diameter of 8.5 inches. The inner axleshafts of the Dana 44 are also stronger 30-spline units, compared to the 27-spline units found in the Dana 30. Identical U-joints are found in '97-and-later Dana 30s and Dana 44s. Which usually break first before the axles.

Yea your Dana 30/35 setup isn't going to hinder you driving or going onto the beach, or if you're like me and it's mostly dirt trails. Where the Dana 44 has the capability is rock crawling. If you're driving up into the mountains, wouldn't worry about it. Wouldn't worry about swapping your axle just yet.

thats the antisway bar. no need to remove it from the bumper, just tie the ends up out of the way

Small bunge cord or long zip ties are easy .. just wrap around the frame.
