This maybe a dumb question but I'm going to ask anyways. I come from a YJ many years back and I loved it because I could leave the top down when it rained and I never had any issues with water and the dash. But the TJ concerns me because the dash has much more stuff behind it. Is this something I should be concerned about?
probably as things dried out. I know they try to protect air bag connections and probably if this becomes as dedicated of a trail jeep as I want the airbags will probably just come out. But until that point I would want it street legal.
I've had mine off several times in heavy rain, and not had any problem. although I know there is a recall from chrysler about the ignition switches 00-02 that has to do with moisture and a short circuit that may cause a fire... let me see if i can find it... yep here we go...
Defect: On certain sport utility vehicles, water and impurities can enter into the ignition switch causing a short circuit that can result in a vehicle fire.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the ignition switch with a redesigned switch. Owner notification began April 8, 2002. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
I've had problems with my CD player not reading the CD when it has gotten rained on. But nothing serious.
Good question though because although it's a jeep, I'm still concerned about it and would rather not worry about wet interior.
At some point during jeep ownership, you will BUST A NUT!!!
well these are some positive answers so look like I'm starting to lean towards the tj. To high jack my own thread any years I should look out for? I remember when the 97 and 98's came out they were having manifold issues.
I have had mine get caught in downpours, get so soaked there was a 1/2 inch of water in the floor area. Never ever had a problem just pulled the drain plugs out and hung the rugs over the clothes line. Besides my butt getting wet no other technical difficulties!!
