Death Wobble fix... next step??

I experienced some DW a few weeks ago. Upon inspection I found my track bar needed to be replaced so I threw a new TB on. Today coming back from takin my daughter to school I got a slight shimmy just like before. Once again I crawled underneath the little blue beast and started pushing and pulling on everything I knew could cause DW. It seems to me, my tie rod ends are in need this time. Both TRE's and the one at the pitman arm. Is there anything else I should order or check before I complete my order so I could save on shipping? Thanks to all in advance

I had this issue 2 weeks ago also. Bought a beefy steering stabilizer and it got rid of my problem. The crappy stock one was so bad my 8 year old daughter could depress the piston in and out!!

This tells me it's not DW. You'd know if it was DW due to the piss stain in your seat when your done with the ride.

That being said id also check and make sure your wheels didn't throw a weight causing them to be unbalanced, depending on what kind of tire you have it could also be caused by uneven wear so look at that too. Good luck

Well a few weeks ago it felt like I had a shimmy. Turns out there was a little play in the steering gear box. Tightened it up and she's been good ever since. There wasn't a lot of play only about 1/4 to1/2 an in. Maybe that's it?

I ordered the TRE's from Rockauto before lunch today. They do have some play to them. The control arm bushings look good, the steering stabilizer is almost brand new. That was installed in january just before I bought the beast. The receipt was in the glovebox when I drove it off the lot. I will rebalance all my wheels and tires saturday when I can get to the shop. Now... I gotta go clean the puddle of piss out of the floor board LOL

No. You did not "fix" anything. You only masked the problem with the steering stabilizer. A new steering stabilizer fixes nothing. There is still something wrong with your Jeep that caused the wobble in the first place. It is most likely your track bar, but could be your tie rod ends, ball joints, and/or bad balance/alignment. These problems need to be corrected in order to actually cure death wobble. As I said, a steering stabilizer only masks the problem. Just wait, in a month or two your death wobble will return. A Jeep with a good front end (no worn parts) will drive just fine even WITHOUT a steering stabilizer. Do a dry steer test so you can determine the actual problems. And before you decide to argue with me and say I'm wrong, please search through the forms and read the sticky titled "Death Wobble?" at the top of the TJ forum. Not trying to be rude, just trying to help.

The steering stabilizer is one of the last parts I would look to for the simple fact its not a part that i have to have. I want to fix the DW not just mask it. It seems to be I am following the correct steps. Track bar, TRE's, ball joints, and balance/alignment. I'm looking into new tires and wheels as we speak so that may not be an issue for long.

Had to adjust the toe in on my tires after my lift. Solved my DW. Then again, the lift changed the toe on me...so if you didn't recently lift...I'm not sure. Worth a check though, just need a tape measure to see..

Hmm just had it aligned the other day at a local 4x4 shop, no issues. I never said any where in my post that I "fixed" the issue, just said it got rid of my problem. I no longer have any shake in my steering.

When you installed your new TB, did you check out the dia of the holes in the fixed frame bracket? If you don't remember, have someone sit behind the wheel with the ignition key "on" to free up the steering motion ... and aggressively turn the wheel back and forth while you closely watch the TB/frame connection. New TB with new bolts in a wallowed out hole still allows for minor movement.
