Defroster

Heater wasn't switching modes so did a search, checked vac hoses,o.k. then it starts to work, the more I run it, but, when it goes to the defrost, I hear things moving but nothing comes out, if I back it up one notch, heat comes out of vents but not defrost. Do i have a bad electrical connection or something stuffed up in the tube or?? gettin cold up here....

defroster

Hi,

I was having the same problem....so I started poking around this weekend....if you look under the dash down by the gas petal and look up...you will see 3 vacuum modulator valves....I think the middle one controls the diverter for the defroster. I noticed it looked like it was "a little weak??"...so I sprayed some wd-40 where the metal arm goes into the vacuum modulator unit and PRESTO !!!! it has been working great for the whole week now....I suspect I may need to change out that modulator eventually....I also noticed that it helps if I turn the fan blower down to the 1 or 2 posistion while switching the diverter settings...

Hope this helps....BTW mine is a '99

Jim

Did what you said, n1, Both middle leveres broken off..stuck a srew in the top one to open it, now I have defrost til I can disassemble it. Anyone know if the levers are the male end or not? Hoping to be able to dig out the broken bits and just replace the levers...
