Unhappy Delayed shifting?

Hi all. Any opinions on this one? I don't use 4WD that often, but when I am finally shifting back to 2WD from 4WD, I notice that a few seconds after I have shifted, there are one or more thumps felt coming from the drive train.

I am assuming that one or more of the wheels are delaying going back into 2WD, perhaps due to some component sticking. (I have done no mechanical research on this yet, so I don't know how it works at this point).

Anyone have experience with this?

Rich
