So the differential carrier cap bolts broke in my D35 today and i need to find some grade 8 replacements for now until i can upgrade to a 8.8. Anyone know where i can get these?

My bet is some clueless individual overtightened the bearing cap bolts. Hopefully whoever reinstalls them will take the time and have the expertise to be able to insure the bearing caps go back with the same orientation they had before the bolts snapped.

Thread on bolt thread

FYI.....
It sounds like the original poster thought that "Grade 8" American Standard was similar to "Grade 8.8" Metric. Two different animals!
If I don't mis-remember the Dana 35's are all US thread. Our friend would have to get Grade 8 bolts for his Dana. Those are the ones with 6 radial lines. Of course he could go and buy the Chrysler original bolts.

US bolt markings

No Markings Grade 2 Low or medium carbon steel

3 Radial Lines Grade 5 Medium Carbon Steel, Quenched and Tempered

6 Radial Lines Grade 8 Medium Carbon Alloy Steel, Quenched and Tempered

Metric Bolts

8.8 Class 8.8
Medium Carbon Steel, Quenched and Tempered

10.9 Class 10.9
Alloy Steel, Quenched and Tempered

12.9 Class 12.9
Alloy Steel, Quenched and Tempered

For more information try

That's where I got the above.
Hope this helps........
