Differential lost fluid, did I brake something? (+nice pic)

Ok, so like 5 months ago, I got my rear end all re-done when something broke in it (think some gear teeth were missing and needed new spider gears, if i'm not mistaken) , they did all the seals, 1 year warrantee. But like two weeks ago (its prob been there for a month or two) i started noticing that there was this black gunk all over the inside of my back wheels, I first thought brakes, but its the diff. leaking from the axel. I also noticed around the same time that when I would drive from LSU to new orleans, which is about a 75 mile drive, that when I got off the interstate and would turn a corner and accelerate its's like the limited slip (which I think i have? not sure) is sticking, and all these creaks are made and it feels as if both rear wheels are turning at the same speed (should be different speeds b/c turning) and it kind of stutters. The sounds coming from the rear end are one of those sounds you're just like "ahhh thats not good at all" like metal on metal. It will do this only until she is driven for a few hours at high speeds and when turning corners, so I assumed the diff was over heating form losing fluids. Also, after a 75 mile highway drive, it doesn't do it when im turning and not applying the gas, only when I am accelerating and turning. Also, when its a cold start, or if I'm just running around campus, then no problems when turning either accelerating or not. Like yesterday I drove around town running errands for 45 min, i topped out ever at 45, no problems. It's when I'm driving at high speeds on the interstate and then get off and am driving on regular streets. So to me sounded like the diff leaked fluid, and was overheating, and the lsd was sticking, if that makes sense... I'm not big at all on diff's and lockers and what not.

So.... today I got to autozone and get some diff fluid. I figured the diff would be real empty, but only like 1/5 of a quart got in before it started leaking out. Haven't driven it since. But like I said, for weeks i've been driving it around and it really has only done it after driving on the interstate. Do you guys think this will help out or what else could be wrong?

Oh, and here's a pic I snagged when I had permission form LSUPD to bring her up on our parade grounds to unload something, so I got a nice pic with the Clocktower with the flagpole right down the middle.

IF you have black gunk all over your tires pull your diff breather off and clean it out real good. It might be clogged and the pressure might be pushing the fluid out the seals. IF the breather is clean and free flowing they set something up wrong in your housing. They will need to tear it back apart and redue it.

ok thanks. the shop I went to gave me a one year warrantee on the work, and since they tore it all apart I'm assuming they should cover fixing the seals, no questions asked?

x2 check the breather. But I would bring it back in, grinding and overheating are not good. Also put chalk or some kind of mark on the diff cover to make sure they actually open it up. Or if you have time go there when it's on the lift. Remember it's N.O. LE BON TON ROULET. Also I-10 and the spillway isn't a good place to breakdown.

I word be careful what you tell them about driving it around with the noises going on, they could say you destroyed it by driving it after it was acting up.
