After offroading last weekend on some pretty rocky trails both the front and rear diffs were well scrapped up. Should I worry about this and if so what options do I have for skid plates. There are lots of diff. cover options, but I only see 1 actual skid plate for my 2005 Jeep LJ Rubicon. Can you use the Rancho skid on both the front and rear diffs???
You just need differential covers that work on Dana 44 axles. Front and rear. And its fine if they are scratched and stuff, but you don't want to dent them to the point they touch the ring gear inside or cause a leak. If your style/terrain causes the scratches, I would get a good quality differential cover just in case. When you change them, you will need the new covers, proper gear oil, and either RTV or a couple Lube Locker gaskets. I prefer lube locker gaskets because they can be reused and won't leak even if you shift the cover.
