Door Lock

I have a 97 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Recently the passenger door lock has been giving me problems. I lock the door with the toggle door lock. When returning to my Jeep the Key does not unlock the door. I get in the driver side and try to unlock using the toggle switch and this does not unlock it either. the switch or toggle moves , but i cannot get it to unlock the door. I have had to roll down the window and get to the mechanism to get the door unlocked.
I have taken the door panel off and tried to lubricate the mechanism, but still have the problem

any thoughts????
thanks
Ron

Nope never had that problem but next time you get it unlocked just take your door off and Welcome to the forum.

Does the lock toggle very easily? Like there is no resistance? If so it's probably just the lock mechanism getting hung up or one of the ends is no longer connected. Take the door skin off and check it out. You may be able to fix it once you look at it.

I have the same/similar problem....did you happen to work it out yet?
(97 TJ with roll down windows)
If you lock and unlock my doors with the key there is no problem. My problem arises when, if the door is locked, and you try to open it from the outside, it somehow seizes the lock. At that point, it will not unlock from the inside or outside.

i have the same issue on my driver door, what i do is make sure that the door handle has fully returned, and then lock it with the toggle inside, when you lock it make sure it goes all the way into the locked position.

My half doors have the same problem when I pull them out of storage. Just open the doors up and re-attach the innards that have come apart. I have to do it every time I take my half doors out of storage.

If it's a soft top who needs to lock the door! That is what the zippers are for! If it's unlocked the crooks wont need to cut your top.
