Drag in reverse

Has anyone run across this? Recently when putting my jeep in reverse and letting out the clutch it stutters like it wants to stall but doesn't. It almost feels like there is some additional friction or binding that it is fighting against like the brakes are applied. It doesn't do this when moving forward. I haven't been driving it much as it is in winter hibernation. I raised the rear end and spun the wheels by hand, they move freely. All fluids in both diffs, transmission, and transfer case have recently been changed. Any ideas of other things to check? My jeep is a 98, I have the 4.0 engine, and manual transmission.

Thank you

My 06 with the 6 speed does the same thing. I'm interested to see if anybody knows the cause.
