Drag Link and Pitman arm question

I was working under the jeep last night reattaching one of my skid plate bolts after a great weekend of wheeling at Rausch Creek. Awesome place.

When I was climbing out I pulled on the bar that comes off the steering box to the passenger side wheel area. I think it is the drag link (not sure on the terminology). Anyway, the bar twists a bit. This is not normal right?

Nothing seems to be different about the steering performance, but I don't want it to become an issue. Do you think the nut tab has just come loose or has something broken from a good hit while wheeling?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks. Neil

The short connecting arm that goes between the steering box and drag link is called the Pitman arm. Take a look at the below photo for the terms of everything.

If you mean you can rotate the long connecting rods like the drag link and tie rod, that is normal. They are connected via ball joints which allows them to rotate somewhat so they don't break as the front suspension moves up and down while you drive around. They should not move left-to-right but a bit of rotational play is normal and required.
