DS/Tcase/tranny clacking; sometimes rattle

So symptoms. Thinking back a bit i used to have a slight 'clack' that would occur if I got on the gas a bit heavy from a stop. Just tonight it's now making that clack anytime I jump on the gas, even from a roll. It almost sound like there's slack in the drive line somewhere and when torque is applied it locks it up and makes the noise. Seems to rattle a bit more going over bumps or if I'm accelerating through a turn. Through tight turn is when it seems to turn into a rattle.

Possibly related my tranny seems to be making a bit louder than normal clunk when shifting between D/R/P.

So before I start throwing money at whatever the hell this turns out to be I'm here to trouble shoot. My ideas...

Rear U joints: My front DS died about 5k miles ago, so that leads me to believe these ones weren't far behind. Really hoping this is all it is.

Slip yoke/Tcase issue: Really really hope I don't have to dig into this, but can't think of where the slack would be from.

Maybe get lucky and I just have to swap fluids/do a flush?
I would've done more poking around but it's hard to line up a day when I don't have work (deliver driver) and a day where there isn't snow expected. Thanks for any replies!

Christmas eve bump. Forgot to add in the last week I started getting a vibration that manifested itself in my dash between 25-35. Last couple days it has settled in and only occurs at 25-30 and much quieter. Only occurred when I was accelerating

Late merry Christmas!

So after another couple days of close listening the clack turns into almost a rattle if I really get on the throttle to merge from a stop or near stop. Also I managed to get underneath and everything is tight. Shocks, LCAs, no DS backlash, trackbar ok. The sway bar did have some play, but nothing that could really produce that metal on metal sound. Bushings looked fine they were just loose in the lower mount

Check your transfer case linkage. It is mounted on the drivers side of the tub, kind of covered by the skid plate. If there is no bushing/sleeve left on the shaft where it connects to the bracket on the tub, that is likely your problem. I am waiting on the $20 part from the dealership (part number 05014148-AA) to fix mine.

Came here to say this. Had the same issue on my 2005 TJ, drove me nuts but I never got around to fixing it before I got rid of it for my 99

Here's a write up on it.

Hopefully it's one of these tow, noise below you is kinda scary money wise.

From personal experience, if you take off and you put your hand on the trans tunnel over where the linkage is, you should be able to feel it
