ECU wants a Torque Converter Solenoid...and she is not getting one!

Good Day All!

Let me begin by saying I have searched everywhere before posting this!

My ’97 TJ ECU used to have an Automatic Transmission. I put an AX-15 in her when doing the Stroker motor.

Now the ECU wants a Torque Converter Solenoid (Code P0743). Well as much as I love that Jeep she is not getting a TCS!

Here is the question. I know the wire harness is the same between Auto and Manual Transmission.

Do I short the wires for the TCS Connection to each other? Will that simulate the signal the ECU wants? (The ECU is looking for a ground when the Torque Converter is locked, correct?)

In Cleveland, Ohio I cannot get tags with a CEL light on. At least without jumping thru a lot of hoops.

Thanks for your time gentlemen…and ladies if you are here

-johnnie

Don't know if this is legal, but...my friend built a Jeep also with a CEL on. Well he needed to pass inspection too so he took the dash apart and put electrical tape over that portion of the dash to mask the light and lo and behold, inspection passed!! just sayin, food for thought....

Thanks Baker!

In NE Ohio they plug into your OBD2 Port and scan for codes.

Sorry I did not mention that in my previous post

The ECM is looking for an engine RPM drop after it sends the signal to lock up the torque converter. If it doesn't see that RPM drop, it sets that code and lights the Check Engine light. The only way to fix it is to swap the ECM for one programmed for a manual transmission.

He needs the engine computer out of a 1997 Wrangler TJ Sport with the 4.0L engine and manual transmission. That is the only computer that will work to fix his problem.

Can he not just take the ECU up to the dealership and have his current ECU reflashed to match his new setup?

Just my luck! I have a "parts guy" at a local Jeep Dealership. I will ask him about reflashing, or reprogramming the current ECU.

If not I have a pal at Advanced Auto. They want around $300. He may be able to get me a better price.

I have far too much blood, sweat, tears and money into my baby girl for me to stop now!

I hate driving her around with Temp Tags! I may put a note in my back window that says "Built! Not Bought!"

I will up date when I have any more news.

I do appreciate all the help gentlemen!

See y'all aroung the forum.

Thanks!

Get on car-part.com and start digging through all the ones they have for sale. Don't send them email, they don't respond, you have to get on the phone and make sure they can lay hands on the part and then order it.

There are companies on eBay that advertise reflashed ECMs and some claim they will reflash your ECM. Caution that I've heard a few horror stories about them too.

Checked Car-Part.com and they could not find one in my area. Forgot the exact quote... Thanks for that info though Magic.

I too have heard bad things about the reprogrammed ECU. I figure I am already neck deep. Going to Advanced Auto this weekend to order a new one.

In for a penny, in for a pound kinda' thing.

Thanks again fellas.
