Electric Life power window conversion

I bought an electric life power window kit for my TJ. It's the same kit that quadratec sells for $350+ and I bought it for $150! I got it from someone who's parents bought it for them and they didn't want it. I'm about 50% done, but I got some pix of the switch install.

It has a quick disconnect for each door, and the wiring was incredibly easy. Power wire is spliced to the parking light circuit feed, ignition wire is spliced to the radio feed, and ground is down below the OBD-II port. The only difficult part was getting the regulator in the door with the glass still intact. I found that by pushing the window all the way up and wedging the interior grab handle down the door, it would hold the glass. Few adjustments later and I had a fully working electric driver's window. I still have to get the passenger's side regulator in, and tuck the wiring harness up into the dash. The switches light up green but i noticed they were reverse polarity when they came fully assembled. No biggie, just swap out 2 terminals.

Opinions?

When I opened the kit (it was still sealed and vacuum packed) everything was already assembled for you except the plug that goes to the motor. That's so you can trim wires to desired length. This kit as compared to other ones (like the ones that slip over the crank splines and use a cap for the door panel) is top notch. I would have liked to have different switches, but seeing how easy this kit was to install so far (well.. the regulator was a bitch) it's definitely worth the $150 i spent on it. Hell, the window lift motors in my saturn went out and I bought 2 new front ones for more than what I bought this kit for. I just don't see it worth almost $400 that quadratec sells it for.

Quadratec no matter what anyone sells is most often overpriced. But Great Customer service.

Question Help for the unskilled

I am glad I finally found someone else who has used this kit. Because I am lost... If you could help me out with some advice or even some pictures I would be forever in your debt.

As you probably remeber, the kit's instructions are terrible and have no pictures. I basically need to know three things

1. whats the best way to remove the old window hardware (the holes in the doors are tiny)

2. Whats the best way to get the motors in the doors (see above about tiny holes)

3. Where is the best place to hook into the Jeeps power.

Thank you in advance
Steven

I would love to do this. No money right now though. If they had a switch to lock the windows... that would be great. Tired of the girlfriend rolling down the window when it's freezing. lol

Man if I found that deal I would have went for it in a second. I got a generic power window kit for $90. It works real well other than the mounting to forever to figure out and I had to drill holes everywhere in the steel door to get it mounted. Also installed power locks at the same time.

Your kit should be a cinch and I don't know how I ever went without power windows before.

Zybeon, where on the Jeep's harnesses did you plug your system in? I bet it would be the same place for my system.

I tapped into a thick accessory wire under the steering column, the ground was just a bolt near the driver door.

Power windows on a Jeep just seem right but more power to you.

You got the point.

Reason I did it, is because all the cars I had before I found Jeep's were power windows. I like being able to easily roll down the passenger window.

Is that what you were meaning to say?

Yeah sorry. Just seems kind polo shirt-esque to me.
My last vehicle was all power and was nothing but problems.
I could not wait to get a Jeep. My dad has a loaded S.U.V. and calls my Jeep primitive.
"No power locks, loud as hell, stick shift, zipper windows", but I'd have it no other way.
And everytime we turn a corner he thinks we're gonna flip

The set of directions that came with my Electric Life kit were very easy and had many pictures. It states to connect power to the thick red wire in the back of the passenger's side fuse panel, and the accessory wire to the radio power wire behind the fuse panel. Then ground it to the door check strap bracket or other ground near that location.

I found that the easiest way to install the kit is to remove the glass. You can find that pretty easily using the search function on this forum. I did not remove the glass, rather i jammed something between the glass and the door frame with the glass all the way up. It was a pain in the ass, because I had to squeeze the top retaining bracket of the regulator between the glass and the door lock rods.

Remember, you'll have to slightly bend the lock rods to get your jeep to lock and unlock normally. The new regulator bolts closer to the door than the manual crank one does.

The easiest way to get the regulator in is to put it in at an angle towards the door lock/release box on the rearward most part of the door. Then, rotate the assembly so you can loosely bolt it together. Put the glass back in, break off the tab on the plastic glass nut closest to the motor of the new mechanism because otherwise it will get caught on the motor. Shift things around, align them, and tighten the assembly down to the door.
