Electrical problems

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and have a question. I have a 98 tj sport. I bought it used with low miles. well, about two months later my gauges started going all crazy. All of them would drop, then go back to normal. It keeps doing this off and on. The airbag light comes on too. If i hit a bump they sometimes come back on, if not, i hit the dash and they will come back on. Sometimes they will stay on for a couple of weeks, like nothings wrong, then there will be times they won't work for awhile. Also i noticed my odometer will stop working when this happens. I can turn a wrench, so i 'm not worried about that, but can someone give me an ideal how to fix this? Ever happend to anybody else? Thanks in advance for any help.

Its a common enough problem that Chrysler has a TSB for the repair. The problem is oxidation on the pins that connect the wiring harness to the back of the instrument cluster. If you do a search on here, you will find the TSB and the fix. I believe there is even another person asking about this problem very recently on this forum with the title "no bus"...same issues he's having. There is a remote possibility that its the cluster itself, but the big money is betting on the connection on the back being the problem. The simple fix is to clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner and qtips and or bend the pins slightly. The factory approved fix is to replace the connector with a new one but that requires either cutting into the harness to crimp in new terminals (acceptable) or solder in the new terminals (best).
