Engine noise, normal?

I have read a few threads about pinging. i dont know if my engine sound is normal or not but it seems to be like the valves are too loud? i read that if u change fuel type that might effect. We got 91, 95 , 98, what everyone uses is 95 and my dad used to put in his grand cherokee that and my nephew a few years back also on his wrangler, and the dealer recommends it, so i use it, today i swtiched to 91 to check if this valve noise will go and no its same. the noise is only when accelerating and the engine is under stress. the jeep has been well maintained and has only 60000miles. any ideas or ways i can check wats wrong. i dont want to ignore and then break something cause i didnt check at the beginning.

It is very hard to identify what might be wrong without actually listening to the noise. Can you make a video and post it here?

Also, I have heard changing to a different type of engine oil will make a difference to valve terrain NOT fuel.

i tried a while back but it doesnt show. i aske dmy borther today who used to own a yj and a tj a few years back and he said thats its normal and that all wrnagler get this sound with time. he said that from factory theres no sound but then there is. the sound comes from the header. i went under the jeep and had some one rev a bit and its coming from the headers, but no cracks.

manifold gasket...maybe it needs to be replaced. My 98 does this same thing, if i hold it to the floor or if im luggin it up a hill etc.. i get the ticking sound, i personally think of it more as and exhaust leak sound under the hood. I think my manifold (header) gasket needs to be replaced too...ebay has a good kit for $89 shipped for the Stainless exhaust manifold, manifold gasket, and lower end exhaust gasket for the exhaust pipe, along with the flange and 2 bolts to bolt it up the the exhaust pipe

I talked to my mechanic who looked at it briefly and he said he thought it was a small crack. May be wrong though. Is it a sort of cool sounding sound? Its sort of a pinging when accelerating hard in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th if you are really on the pedal.

I had a noise like that for quite a while. Last weekend I went wheeling and when we were done the noise had gotten much worse. Ended up being the flange that connects the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe. It was just loose, really loose. Tightened it up and the noise was gone.

Mine has gotten worse. That's what my mechanic said would happen if it were the manifold...I think I'll wait until I can no longer bear the sound until a see him.
