Engine Rebuild

So I have an '02 wrangler 4.0L with 175k and I'm looking to rebuild the motor soon. I was wondering if you have to get the block and head machined when ever you do a rebuild? Also, can you just replace the piston rings or must you replace the pistons as well? Just thinking. Curious how much people have spent on rebuilds. Thanks!

with 175k miles
I would have it checked out completely
better to do a complete rebuild and take care
of all the possible issues that occur with High mileage engines.

i'm also in MD !

I elected to by the ATK long block motor since they go through everything my 03 motor is 2200.00 from them with me doing the install. I couldn't do it that cheap and do it right.

I did quite bit of work on my last 4.0 and it was right around $2500 with me doing a lot of the manual labor. You can get away just over a $1000 if you do a lot of the work and are handy with tools. I would rebuild it if I were you, but I restored my first car at 15 many years ago.
