Engine Seized

I was driving it around and it developed a knocking noise. I continued to drive it for a little while. I filled it up with gas, the knocking was much louder. Then I made it 50 feet down the road and the engine seized.

I replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor and it still wont start.

How can I fix my vehicle? or what should I check next?

Sorry to say it sounds like to me that the knocking noise in the beginning was the oil pump failing.Did the oil pressure drop off or did the oil light come on???

was it a knocking noise or more if a ticking noise. when i first had my license i had a saturn and i ended up throwing a rod through the block. i kept hearing a ticking sound that got faster as the engine revved. after a little while of driving like that it blew through the block. i'd check to make sure that that is not the problem.

when was the last time you checked the oil?? If it seized up from running dry you might as well junk the motor.

instead of getting gas you should have turned the radio up louder.. sorry..but sounds like new engine shopping in your near future. no oil will first cause click, knock, than boom. may have saved it if turned off at first sign of trouble. a tow is cheaper than engine

Should have checked the oil when you put gas in it. Don't waste money on changing parts, the engine has internal damage.

Is it seized? as in won't turn over at all?

Likely gonna need a rebuild or new motor either way I guess, just wondering why you would put new tune up parts on a seized motor.

first problem...regular maintenance, change and check oil regularly.
second problem... " i heard a knocking noise and kept going" thats a good clue to stop and check things out.
third problem...."the knocking noise got louder and then...." well, now its too late anyway.

This is what my sister did to my beloved '57 Chevy when I loaned it to her while I was overseas with the military. She blew the engine because she never checked the oil level and kept driving it when it started knocking loudly.

...perhaps I didn't give all the information. I bought this Jeep as an R title and I wasn't sure if it was the original motor or if someone dropped a different motor into it. So we tried reversing the timing chain because we thought it might have jumped time. We reversed it 180 degrees and got the motor to turn over and run just very sloppy,..back firing, and knocking. So the only reason I tried putting new parts on it is because I thought it might have jumped time.
There was plenty of oil in it when it seized.

Does anyone know what kind of motor I could replace it with, other than a rebuilt 2.5 Wrangler motor? These are hard to come by and it would be nice to have something with a little more power.

I'm still not with you here.
Please explain what you mean by "seized" will the crank move at all?
Go into great detail. believe me, you won't bore us and we might actually find that the motor you have can be saved.

As for replacing the motor. I'm pretty sure getting another 4 banger would be the easiest as well as the least expensive route. If I'm not mistaken, the long block from a 4banger Cherokee can be used.
