Engine, computer and wiring harness.

If you keep your tiny 4banger transmission you will have to get adapters to convert it to the 4.0 block. Plus it's not made for the torque of the 4.0L so problems are likely to occur down the road.

Easiest way is to pull the engine and trans together with computer and harness. You don't have to change the axles at all.

Still going to advise against it as the 4 popper tranny is not made to hold up to the job. And the 6cyl trans will be cheaper than the adapters plus time to get them set up.

Anyhow Novak and "AA" Advance Adapters are great sources with just about any adapter you can think of.

Where are you getting the motor? If the trans is still in the vehicle your pulling the motor from take the trans too along with the computer and harness.

But yes you can get the trans from a junk yard if you can find one. TJ's are a diamond in the ruff at a junk yard and you will be hard pressed to find one there.

Daveysjeeps.com is a jeep salvage yard in OH with anything you would want.
You also don't have to have the motor trans from a TJ.

Similar Situation

My son has a 1993 wrangler w a 4banger (fuel inj)
We found a 1991 4.0 6cyl but no wiring harness.
The local yard has no wrangler 4.0 but several cherokee 4.0 ranging from 1989 to 1995. Do you have a suggested year? and would it work.
I'm dissapointed to hear about the transmission. I was assured by a friend that the 4banger tranny would bolt right up to the 4.0

Thanks for the help

A Cherokee trans would "fit" but it's a different beast. It's a 4speed that uses a completely different computer.

Search for Stu-Offroad AW4 and you can read up on it if you like. It's a pretty complicated swap.
