Engine troubles

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a 4.0 engine for a 2000 Wrangler. I purchased a rebuilt engine
that we thought would work. It turns out that I got an engine for a 99-01 Cherokee. None of us thought that the engine wouldn't bolt right in.
If anyone knows of a good 4.0 I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks,
Vern

BTW I'm in central PA

Try Advance adaptors(spelling), they might have part to make it work on the TJ. also what will not bolt up? You may want to try car-parts.com has lots of part listing for just about anything.

Thanks I'll look to see want they have.
I talked to a Jeep expert and when I told what I had, he told me the engine I bought wouldn't work.
The motor mount brackets, alternator, power steering pump, the spark plug rail that is new to 2000 and the rest of the accessories. All of these will not fit. The engine block and head are molded completely different. If I had the money and equipment (welders and such) I'd drop a V8 in it.

You may want to get a second opinion on that.I have not worked the 2000 wranglers enough to tell you for sure(only one in this town) but I thing the block is the same and by changing your intake and other things like alt, starter and so on the two 4.0L blocks would be compatible.I would check into it a little more before I give up hope.I swapped a 99 into a 97 and was told after having it running that it could not be done because the alt, starter, coil, intake and on and on were all different. That was after at first being told they were the same and a direct swap(plug and play) NOT!!!Yes I had to rewire my whole jeep but it was done and all but the cruise control( just won't work) it works just like factory.

The blocks are molded very differently. The casting numbers are different. I got this from ATK Engine site.

Grand Cherokee 04-99, Wrangler 06-00, Block #53010327AB, 53010328AB, Head #0331, Has Smaller
Exhaust Ports. Crank #441, 0767. Oil Filter Base 90 Degrees From Pan Rail.

01-00 Cherokee Only, Block #53010449aa, Head #0331 Crank #53010411,
