Error 0441

So my check engine light came on and I looked up how to find the code and theres something wrong with the
Evap Purge Flow Monitor-
Insufficient or excessive vapor flow detected during evaporative emission system operation.
But I don't what it means. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Quite often that can be gas cap related... that it is loose or the engine was running with the gas cap loose or off.

Odd, it's supposed to. The OBD system is supposed to self-test for a leak in the fuel system and it definitey does on all newer TJs. Come to think about it, it's never happened on my '97 either so it could have started after the '97 model year.

ya, jeep was very loose on emissions crap then. they have since been forced to be more picky. evap codes are tough, and the first step is usually buy a gas cap and clear it. but you can also go to an emissions test center and have them test your cap, not sure if thats possible in your area.

otherwise, with that flow code, it is usually a purge solenoid, or a check valve. also possible evap vacuum line leaks. the vacuum lines get old and fall apart. this is virtually impossible for most shade tree technicians to find. after the gas cap, it basically needs to be smoke tested at a shop.

I checked the cap and it was caught up alittle bit with the tether. After driving the light has not gone off.

it will take a while for it to go away on its own if that was the problem.

disconnect the battery for at least 30 minutes.

IIRC that should be long enough to reset the memory in the computers. just dont hotrod it right after you reconnect the battery.
