Exhaust?

Ive been hearing of many different ways to make my wrangler sound nicer. should i go with a whole exhaust system or can just a muffler make it sound nicer??

Just a muffler. Some run flowmaster 40's. Borla, banks.

Depends on who you ask. I would personally run Magnaflow. I hate flowmaster (call them blowmaster.) Magnaflow I think will sound the best to me. There was a sound board done for exhaust on jeeps. I can't find it. Hope somebody else has the linked saved.

I would just go to youtube and type in "wrangler exhaust system", or type in "wrangler" and the name of the brand muffler or system you want to hear afterwards like "wrangler dynomax". You will have an hour or so of stuff to listen to.

The straight six should not sound like a ricer. The cat converter does seem to take some of the edge of the sound. I have always though a straight sixes sounded good with louder exhaust systems installed.

Here is an example of a flow with no cat:

I have a magnaflow exhaust system I paid way to much for. That flowmaster 40 with no cat sounds bad ass I think I'm gonna switch. They have the flowmaster system on rustys for about half what the magnaflow was.

Yea, the cat makes a big difference in sound. It was the same on my diesel truck. My jeep exhaust is stock now but I am tempted to change it.

I personally like the flowmaster too, my Jeep sounds more like old school power instead of a newer car... if that makes sense. Kinda like Catalogs exhaust.

Although, I'm not entirely sure what model muffler it is, all I know is that its abnormally small.

Off topic... Catalog, where did you get those tube fenders? Was it from White Rhino Fab? Just wondering. I ordered some a few weeks ago. Those look great.

Oh, and there is a write up on all of the aftermarket exhausts with videos and sound. I cannot remember which one it was, either jp, 4wd or one of those magazines sites. I was watching it a couple of weeks ago.

Green jeep has Poison Spyder Customs fenders. They should be producing them again with the new owners. That being said I would suggest the Treks fenders over them. The PSC fenders do not give more clearance at the back of the fenderwell like the treks do.

Back to topic.

I just wish someone made a complete bolt on 2.5" system for our Jeeps (manifold to tip) with mandrel bends. Everything I find is always "cat back".

Thank you guys for the answers to the muffler questions. I've had my TJ for a little over 2 years and I'm in need of a few mods. First, is a new muffler and possible a test pipe for the cat. I really want to get rid of my catalytic converter and just have a test pipe in there but I'd like to know if that is a good idea. Any suggestions?

Its not really a good idea to upgrade your muffler or exhaust if youre planning your vehicle for offroad use. It does practically nothing except for aesthetics. But heck if you want your vehicle to sound nice go right ahead, i try to find a combination of looking nice and reliability in off roading purposes.

Its not a bad idea, but your money would better be spent elsewhere

I like glasspacks, dynomax, and flowmaster 40 the best, and will probubly go with one of them in the near future, but is it safe for your jeep to run without a cat?
