Exhaust info

I am looking at replacing the exhaust on my 98 4 cyl TJ. I am trying to figure out (while being lazy) how many cats does the 4 Cyl have? I will also be changing the O2 sensors as I'm sure they were not changed out recently by the PO. I'm not looking for "power increase", or any of the other stuff like louder exhaust etc.... It would be nice if I came out with a few more miles per gallon but I know it is a brick on 35's so that is also not likely. Also wondering what is a good replacement for the stock exhaust?

Probably only have 2. Maybe just 1.
Just crawl under and look. It'll only take a minute.
A lot of people run the flowmaster super 44 as well. But I will probably go a with a flow master.

I just put on a thrush muffler, hard to beat for $30. Removed a super 44 was too loud for me.

I just got off the phone with a local muffler shop. The muffler and cat (stock replacements) around $310 installed. Not too bad IMO. They want $250 for the two sensors installed. I think I will definitley do the sensors myself.

Opinions on the stock replacement??

Yeah but I'm thinking I need to have my cat replaced as well. It sounds very dense when tapping on it. Even with banks at $207 installed myself the adding a cat I'm still coming out mor expensive. Is the banks that much better??

I have a Bank's on mine as well. My father just got home from Afghanistan for 2 weeks and liked the way mine sounded and put one on his. He's running 35's on
4" susp and 1 1/2" bl. He went from 7 mpg to 9-10. He was doing it for sound and ended up getting economy out of it.

A side not on mine, I live by the beach and wash my jeeps/undercarriage every week because of salt and what not.. The Banks is showing rust already.

Edit: He and you are actually running pretty much the same set up. His is a 99' Tj with 35/12.5/15's

On my YJ I had the front of the cat melted shut when the coil to dist. wire melted off . Cut out the cat and I went to a local muffler shop and had all new piping plus muffler, which was a wanna be magnaflow installed for $150 and was only there for 30 minutes. They let me watch 'em too and BS'd with 'em while they did the work. Small shops are the best. Left the cat out. No inspections are the best.

Gotta love states with no emission testing!

Sucks to live in Cali

I live in VA so emissions is not that big of a deal for me either. May look at that option.
