exhaust install

just got a banks monster cat-back for a ridiculous price and plan on installing it on my 99' 4 banger. is there anything i should need to know before i start?

and yes i understand that it isn't going to make much of a difference in performance but it was a deal i could not let down.

not unless you want to. look under your jeep and you will see it's a easy job to do.
If you run into any problems let us know. We'll try to help with it.

Also....does it actually come with a new cat? If your just doing the unbolt and bolt up banks kit ..make sure you have the exhaust gasket for the pipe.

And a warning...those bolts are a b(&^h to get off...good luck.

no there is no new cat its just from the cat back. i have one of the older tj's so i will need to do some cutting. i know on the 00' and up tj's its just a direct bolt on to the cat but not in this case.

Get it welded in first chance you get. I dealt with leaks for a month before I broke down and had it welded...worth the money.

I put dual flowmaster dumps on mine..the thing screams..can barely hear myself think..I LOVE IT! cost me about 50 bucks including install... I like it better then the dual exhaust (straight pipes out the back) i used to have on it..had to change them with the new Fabtech lift I put in

just a tip, when trying to pull the rubber hangers off, spray them with some oil or wd40 or whatever you have in handy to lube them up. Makes the job 10 times easier.

i have aero kroial at work, its a very strong and can get any rusted bolt off in seconds no need to spray and wait for it to do its job. and any time i am planning of working on something i always spray it down a day ahead of time.

just got the muffler delivered and i was taking a look under the jeep and it looks like i am going to have to drop the cross member. there is very little room to get even remotely close to the cat in order to cut the pipe. here is a pic off my cellphone

yes you will have to remove the tcase skid. Make sure you remove the 4 nuts int he center of the skid first and then drop it. it is not a bad idea to drop the skid and have a buddy hold the tcase up for ya so you can support it. There is nothing but the engine holding the tcase and tranny up once the skid is removed.

you better have something to cut the muffler. The clamp that holds the muffler to the cat was so tight, it physically deformed a big 1/4" dimple all the way around into both pipes so they were stuck together because of it. Even after i removed the clamp, i could not pull the muffler off with a big hammer. i then split the pipe in the middle to get it off.

that sounds like a little over kill for just an exhaust on a wrangler.

one question- how the f*** do you open your hood with that massive waist of metal tubing over it? just wondering.

its a "hinge" so simply you pull a little rod thing and it swings forward on a hinge. When you're done, you close the hood and then close the metal tubing back and slide the rod back in to lock it.
