exhaust part question

ok i have a 01 tj i have a y pipe coming out of my headers with 2 cats on it and after the y pipe there is a short pipe with what looks like another cat but it doesn't have any o2 sensor going to it all the 02 sensors are on the y pipe what is the can for right after the y pipe and be fore the cat back it looks pretty useless and seems to be choking my engine .... just makes sense to me that if it doesn't do anything important i'm takin the thing off of there... my thought is that jeep put an extra cat on it that is just taking up space cause they forgot that they put the 2 up in the engine bay and left it there from previous model or its just some kinda baffle thats creating much unneeded backpressure any how if someone could help me figure this out that would be very helpfull thanks

Same here...

Same thing here. I have the std. 4.0 exhaust with cat. conv. and stock muffler. I've been wondering how it would be to remove everything from the cat on back and just having a turbo muffler or a good old "cherry bomb"
The local Jeep expert said that's one of the best things you can do, especially with an aftermarket cold air intake I have.
I have a few exhaust pieces I've been collecting for the job and I'm just waiting for the time and will power now.
Any good words of advice would help.

i noticed this while i was installing the rugged ridge headers and mbrp cat back this past weekend i think this weekend i'm gonna disconnect the muffler off the catback and take the nuts off the y pipe and take that one piece out and have a look and see what i see... if its just a cat i'm gonna beat the insides out if its a baffle i'm gonna go buy a section of pipe and cut and weld..... an on a side note the mbrp cat back sounds great on a 4.0 jeep even tho i'm not getting all of the sound out of it with that can choking my engine but it does have a pretty nice low mean tone with out being to loud and ricer sounding headers give it a bit more freeflowing sound but we will see how it sounds after this weekend
