Welding in a flowmaster 40. Anybody have a reason why I shouldn't dump it with a turn down right out of the muffler? I don't believe I'll ever have da jeep in deep enough water to get above the manifold so hydrolocking shouldn't be an issue. Agree/disagree?

Tacked the turn down on and let it idle for awhile and took down the road. I was worried about fumes coming in but didn't have any that I could smell. Im going to weld it up in the a.m. Really sounds good too.

no, it doesn't. you are just delusional from the mod endorphins.

you'll get over it after the first long road trip when you're tired of the dull drone, or maybe 10 miles into a rocky trail after you suck in a lung full of dust blown up from the turndown.

Good luck! Hope you like it

My friend did the same thing and he said that as long as you don't drive in a lot of stop and go traffic, it wasn't a problem. In the city he was breathing exhaust fumes.

does your friend have the drain plugs out? idk for sure but that could potentially be the way the fumes get into the cab?

Got a set on my hot rod. Drone doesn't bother me. Lol. It's definitely different kind of drone on the jeep though.

It's illegal where I live because of the exhaust fume issue. If you can get away with it where you live, clamp the turn-down in there and try it for a few days before welding it one. Your clothes smelling like exhaust and the constant noise might inspire you to get a tailpipe.

Thats illegal in ct. the exhaust has to exit behind your rear-most seats. so if you take the bench and hardware out and only have a 2 seater you'd be good to go. Or you might have to buy one of those half caps, not sure exactly.

the carbon monoxide that displaces oxygen in the hemoglobin in blood is what kills you quickly. it has no odor.

the pollutants your engine spits out with that carbon monoxide - soot, black carbon junk, unburned fuel, etc...that has a smell.

He had the tips pointed away from the underbody, but he had maybe 2" of pipe out the muffler, so it was pretty much directly under the Jeep.

No smell to CO - it'll just make you sleepy then -- DEAD!

If you only get a smaller dose you might get a headache after you drive it. That's a sure sign it's waiting to kill you.
Another sign is impotency, over time you won't "Be all you can Be!" A good dose of CO poisoning will affect you the rest of your life.

But you won't always feel any symptoms or smell anything - you'll just die!

Why do you think there are laws regarding how the exhaust pipe has to be terminated?

It's just another one of nature's ways of getting rid of those that shouldn't be allowed to breed.

He must be one of those that loves to stay under the sheet when he farts.

Sorry it took a while.

The pipe does turn down directly on the brake cables so I unbolted my upper control arms and ran them above and now I have no problems.

Can't smell and in the cold you can watch the exhaust puff right down and under. Only time its an issue is when I ride with just the back glass open on the hardtop.

I do run a flowmaster 40 (44 whatever is $100 forget) and had to use a piece of pipe to act as a coupler between the muffler and the 45 deg turndown.
