Exhaust upgrade.

I would like to put on a muffler with more of a throtty sound. I have a 2000 sahara-stock exhaust. I was looking at it, it has one cat, and a muffler that has a flange that bolts to the pipe from the cat. The pipe coming out of the muffler is one long piece of tail pipe with hangers connected to it. I was hoping that it would be easy like my other vehicles. That flange i bet will cost! Has anyone done this themselves? I don't want a whole system. Just a nice sounding muffler, i can do the tail pipeing coming from it. Thanks.

put something like a flowmaster 40 on it. there cheap and if you can weld its cake to do. its louder than stock but not overly loud. you could also cut the muffler out and put a straight pipe in there but thats pretty darn loud.

Whats the deal with this flange? All the performance mufflers i see do not have a flange. Just a straight pipe. Anyone know a company that sells one?

i would just cut the flange off and weld to the pipe. if you want to make the muffler removable then you can cut the flange off the old muffler and weld it onto the new one then it will bolt on like the stock one did. all you will need to do is fab pipe out the back.

Now thats an idea, i could buy what ever muffler i want, take my muffler off, cut the flange off it and have it welded to the new one. Thanks.

I have a 99 sport that I purchased a while back with the 4.0l and it was completely stock including the original exhaust that had cracks and leaks I went to auto zone and looked at a few mufflers they had, I picked up a cherry bomb turbo muffler and bolted it up with clamps it sounds pretty good and has a nice growl to it but is by no means loud but mine is an actual muffler made by cherry bomb it is not the round glass packs you see those would be very loud and raspy. Any ways it was only like $20.00 and I have been getting a lot of good comments about it. Its been installed now for about two weeks and I love it. Now I just need to fix a small crack in my exhaust manifold.

I would do away with the cat. if i could get to easier. I'd have to drop the bottom plate in order to do it. I believe the transfer case is bolted to the plate also, Someone correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks for the replies. I remember as a young one that those cherry bombs were quite loud. Maybe they have changed, or that its a straight six thats why there not as loud as you guys say.

I would like to upgrade my exhuast soon and was even considering a glasspack. I once had a Buick Skyhawk with the 3.8 V6 and it had a glasspack muffler and it sounded great.
