Extended the side steps.

I have a Sahara that came with side steps. They are nice but not really usable. They only gave about 3-4" of step. When i lifted the body 2" i noticed that they were bolted inward to the frame. I guess the factory wanted to keep them in line with the rest of the jeep when looking from dead on. I needed a way to lift the steps up 2" to meet the body again so it would not look bad. Today I started the project, Now it's not totally finished but it's 90% done. I used a 1" box steal and 8.8 stainless bolts. This allowed me to raise the steps what ever hieght i wanted and also kicked out the steps a whole inch. Now the steps are usable! And they don't look half bad.

It started to rain so i still need to fabricate another piece. I also put a spacer on the inside of the steal box, so when tighting the bolts the don't crush the box. Not like it was really going to crush, but i like to be on the safe side.

Thumbs up Nice

That doesn't look bad at all, good job.
I was actually going to ask you about that when you were telling me about your Body Lift.
That extra space can be a bit of an eye sore.
Good to see you found a resolution for that.

I also thought those steps were kinda useless, when I bought mine.
It just collects tons of mud, and didn't serve a real purpose imo.
Does that extra 1" out make alot of difference?
If so, I might consider doing that.
I just don't have any spare metal stock around to use.
I'd have to go and buy the material to do it.

Yeah that 1" helps alot. The wife really likes it. Before her foot would feel like it was going to slide off, She now has a better feel. I bought the metal at lowes. A 3 foot piece for 10 bucks.
