117 amps is the usual OE alternator's output for a non-stripped down TJ. By the way, I was looking at your winch in your photos. What size capacity is that winch? It looks awfully small.

It is VERRRYYYYY small lol..Its a joke by us..It means I could put a quad winch on there to pull out a hummer lol..The capacity is 3,000 pounds..Never used it..And also in Jersey u must have a winch on ur vehicle to enter state parks

Hold on, it might be a small winch or that is just one massive light next to it!

I have a stock 117A alternator. A 136A alternator wouldn´t be a big improvement.
Is there another alternator out there with about +180A that does fit?
I have the problem that the alternator can´t be bigger than the stock one because between the alternator and the ARB snorkel air hose there is only about 1" space.

According to the numbers on my stock alt it was only 70 amps at idle and 90 test.So the 136 was a big improvement on mine.I could not run my winch for no more than 15-20 seconds continuous before the swap because my guage would bottom out,the check guage light would come on,the lights would dim way down and the engine would start to stutter. That was at idle and I could go continuous for a minute or so by giving throttle but now I can winch as long as I want with just a little drop in the guage at idle but no dimming lights or stutter from the engine at all.

I read an article in a Jeep magazine once(unfortunately couldn't find it for reference) but it said that some of the mid-late 90s(96-99) Dakota and Grand Cherokee high amp alternators would be a direct bolt on replacement-supposedly they used the same case. Do some research and make sure, then you could check a salvage yard and get one for cheap, or buy one from a parts store.
