Factory Hardtop Weight?

Anyone know what a TJ OEM hardtop weighs?

Gonna be flat-towing the Jeep with a F350 that's already loaded down with a 10' camper and don't want the Jeep any heavier than it needs to be. For all-weather-night-fighter reasons, etc., I'd prefer to leave the hardtop on full-time - IF it isn't a killer with the added weight.

I've read they are around 140lbs for the standard TJ sized ones. Have not been able to verify that however.

Um F350 tow's what 12000lbs... um... don't think the hardtop will be an issue.. infact it may offer less wind resistance than the soft top..

Make sure you read the flat towing instructions. It's some non-intuitive thing for transfer case in neutral, auto in park or something weird like that. I can't remember - I just remember it seemed really wrong to me.

Oh, and magnetic lights don't work on a Jeep top (OK, that's painfully obvious, but I hadn't thought it all out).

Me and a friend moved mine around without much work. I am guessing it weights no more than 150lbs.

TRANSFER CASE IN NEUTRAL, TRANNY IN PARK... STEERING NOT LOCKED... It does sound counterintuitive, but it has been reiterated by those that know in several threads.

The top is not heavy enough to slow you down, and as was stated, might actually increase your towing speed potential, not reduce your MPG (via drag-factor) and makes the Jeep a rolling storage unit with reasonable security.

Sorry....I didn't explain where I was headed with my question. But, big THANKS for taking time to answer.

What I was concerned about is the total weight of the TJ, with and without the hard top, because I also need to include the weight of the cargo (camper in the truck bed), so that it all doesn't exceed the legal GCW (Gross Combination Weight). GCW = GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) + Loaded Trailer Tongue Load.

Yes, the F350 can tow a bunch, but when I add up all the numbers of the curb weight of the truck, weight of all the gear, weight of the passengers including the dog and his stuff, wet weight of the camper, weight of the honkin' tow bar, and weight of all the beer and TP, and then add the weight of the Jeep with its winch, etc. - it gets to be a bunch for the Super Duty - and may be over the limit for GCW. I do recognize that the Jeep toad only adds tongue weight, so I can probably neglect the weight of the top.

This made me go back and get out my old 4-function calculator. Guess all I really wanted to know is how much the top weighs so I can convince my wife to lift it on and off. Looks like I'll lose that one and should get a Hoist-A-Top.

Jeep On....

A TJ OEM top should be about 140 pounds. Aftermarket tops can be heavier.
