Fan controller temp switch location???

My Spal FAN-PWM controller finally went after many good years. Since Spal no longer makes the controller and Painless Wiring's version is over $200.00 I decided to use a in-line radiator coupler that has a 3/8" fitting and an less expensive fan controller.

My question is should I mount the temp switch on the inlet or return hose of the radiator? The reason for my question is most temp switches have preset temp ranges i.e. (160 off to 180 on) and so forth. If I put the temp switch in line with the inlet hose I'm going to be reading a much higher water temp then on the outlet hose. If the thermostat is a 195 deg as in my TJ and runs around 210 deg, the fan will run continuously until I turn the engine off. If I install it on the outlet hose it will read a lower water temp and only turn the fan on when the water reaches the preset temp range of the temp switch, various set temp available.

I would like to here your thoughts on the subject? Feel free to offer which fan controllers are most reliable.

Thanks to all
Bill

It depends on the controller used. It will have instructions for the location of the sensor (inlet or outlet). I have a Delta Current Control on my Mustang. They are very good controllers but receiving one takes a long time. I know a a lot of Mustang guys are using Flex A Lite controllers. Do a search on corral.net forum for fan controllers
