Faulty Ignition Switch symptoms?

So I'm trying to see if maybe my ignition switch is going bad but I'm not sure if I'm on the right track with my symptoms:

1) On occasion when I turn the key the ignition will click and act like the battery is dead but all the accessories will function normally. Turn the key to off and do it again and it starts right up and acts normally.

2) On three recent occasions on starting the vehicle all the gauges go dead (pegged off) and the idiot lights will all trip and stay on until I turn off the Jeep and restart it at which time they function normally.

3) I have been fighting a starting issue that seems to point to the IAC but I suspect perhaps it's the ignition instead (2 new IACs and no apparent wiring issues) since I want to assume that the computer gets it's information to engage/disengage the IAC from the ignition switch. 1 out of 5 starts the Jeep won't start & stay running unless I pump the gas pedal and drive it past idle and I previously discovered the IAC valve was fully extended when this problem would occur.

Am I on the right track or should I still be chasing a short or something? I have already replaced the starter as it failed a few months ago.

It's become such an annoying problem that I won't let my wife drive it which really does make a difference since I sometimes have to drive much farther than she does and prefer to drive our other car since it gets much better gas mileage.

Sound like the wife was driving the Jeep.. Hmmm, I used to have a problem like this on my old Jeep. I replaced 3 starters in 1 week. It was because my wife kept starting it and left the key in the starting postion and would burn up the starter. The ignition would not spring back to on postion.. Took me awhile to figure that out lol...

Thanks for the advice but a starter wouldn't "blank" out the dash like that. And it's technically the wife's Jeep so I can't comment about how hard she is on it.

Anyone else willing to pipe up on this? It's really driving me nuts and I've been trying to figure this out for months. If I can appeal to your empathetic side my Unemployment was cut on Saturday without notice so I have ZERO money to take it to a mechanic to figure out so any self-diagnosis I can do would be GREATLY appreciated. It takes a village to work on these Jeeps people!!!
