Fender flares and door removal

Well, I bought the 2000 Wrangler I was looking at and it's in good condition but does have a few small things we need to correct. Cosmetic only.

First of all I need to deal with the door removal question I asked about yesterday. I guess it offended at least one person. 0The reason I couldn't tell what was going on was the pins were rusted and the were nuts missing. Plus, I've never owned a Jeep so I just didn't know whether they came off or not. It's not in my manual. We lubed them up and the doors came right off thanks to the help I got on the forum. Meanwhile, someone sent me an email saying I was a f**king idiot for not knowing something so simple. The reason I ask is that I've never owned a Jeep and I didn't want to screw anything else up trying to force them off. I figured folks on the forum could show the way. You guys did and I appreciate the advice.

Next problem is this. The plastic fender flares on this Jeep are grey and are faded, spotted and discolored. I doubt this is a unique problem for Jeeps that sit outside. How do you guys restore them? Should they be painted? Armorall won't do the job this time. I thought about Mothers Back to Black but can't find it anymore. As usual, thanks for any help. Eventually I won't be a newbie!

Hank dont even pay attention to idiots like that. Just because you dont ask yoru daddy to buy you a jeep and take the doors of for you doesnt make YOU an idiot.

You remove the nuts on the bottom of the pins and then you pull the doors straight up while opening and closing them few inches (make sure your windows are down or off for safety and better grip). The first few times it will be a pain but eventually they get lose as all things do

As the flares, thats normal. Most people paint them. I've tried a heat gun method and they stayed dark for few months, currently they look like crap (faded again and not evenly).

Yeah, once I did what everyone suggested they popped off with a little elbow grease. I expect we'll just leave the nuts off and keep the hinges lubed up. Thanks.

Hank,

First off, this place is no more immune to idiots like the person that e-mailed you than any other place. Donít let it bother you.

As far as painting your flares, check out this thread: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/pain...res-19217.html

There are a lot of threads on the board that talk about rejuvenating fender flares. Click on the "search" tab and enter "painting fender flares" you'll get a bunch of threads to read.

Welcome to Wrangler Forum. Keep in mind that like most public boards, just about everything you read here is someone's opinion. It's your job to take it all in and then decide what works for you.

oh yes dont forget when you take the doors off you will need to do something about side mirrors. Never drive with no side mirrors.

Mainly, it's the bored cop that resents you riding with no top/doors while he has to work

Do you really believe they see a cent from any citations that are written?
