front drive shaft issue after lift

How many have had this problem, and what did you do to fix it?

I recently put on a 3 inch teraflex kit with adjustable lower control arms on my 04 unlimited. I loaded up the wife and kids today and went to the beach. I hit a few bumps and heard a thumping sound. I crawled under the Heep and this is what I found. The front drive shaft is rubing the cross member for the tranny skidplate when the front axle drops. I have an auto tranny so I would really like to keep the skid, but I really dont want to blow out a front drive shaft ethier. Pics of your fixes would be real nice.

2 options here. Either get rid of of the tranny skid or cut a notch out for the front driveshaft.

Yep almost anyone with a lift that has that cross member in front of the belly pan.The older ones must not have had it because I did not have one to remove but for some reason the 4" lift tells you you will have to modify or remove it but the 3" , I have been told does not mention it, but yet still rubs with 3"s.

Grab a grinder and cut it flush with the rail. Then you should be fine.

Thanks for the replies. Do you know if any one makes an after market cross member? If not, then I will measure the drop of the shaft this weekend and either cut or remove.

Do you have transfer case drop kit installed? That might help.

I did not put the t-case drop on it and I dont plan to, if anything I will put a belly up kit on it. But that takes money. So for now I took it off and will just stay out of the rocks for a while. Thanks for the replies. I really like the torch and the sawsall suggestion. This looks like it is a fun site.
