Front windshield replacement?

Any suggestions on replacing my front windshield on my 97 wrangler? It's got a huge crack going down the drivers side and a few chips here and there so I think it's time to just replace the whole thing.. The only problem is I've called a few stores and they are all quoting me $300 plus.. Does this sound right? Should I do it myself?

125-140 is the going price around the country. Call around for prices.

I'm on my 3rd one. I found a guy that does it for $150 if I take it to him. Even if they advertise that they will come to you for free, ask what their price is if they don't have to. Saves me $50+. (also offer cash)... Half price of my other options.

If your in Florida, doesn't the insurance companies cover windshields free of charge? Otherwise, 150 max.

$300 sounds about right, that's the quote I got from safe lite, shop around you might be able to find it cheaper. It is amazing companies charge that price seeing as its a flat piece of glass with no curvature to it.

If you have comprehensive coverage you get 2 free front windshields a year. If you only have basic liability then no...its not free. Full coverage of course has comprehensive built in...technically its not "free" they waive the deductible on front glass though. That's the florida thing anyhow...just had mine replaced not too long ago. *just don't tell them what really happened*

$300 is what they wanted here also. That's when I called around and found a guy for $150 cash if I took it to him. Most insurances have a $500 deductible, that's how they get away with it.

I have comp through MetLife, glass isn't covered.
Dammit, this thread just made me look at my windshield, I have another chip. At least it's high on the passenger side. I hate cinders in the winter! I hope they don't notice during inspection, I'm due and always get failed for something.

I paid 140 in NJ/PA. My insurance did not cover it.

The area you live in plays a big difference in price. I had mine done for $250 and it was the best price i could find in my area. I have a 250 deductible so it was no sense going thru the insurance company.
