My gas cap is a locking gas cap, and I cant get it off. The lock is messed up on it somehow, the key spins around and around. It took 5 minutes yesterday to work it off, but now it will not budge. It only spins. Got a new cap that doesn't lock and cant get the old one off to put the new one on. Any advice from past experiences?? Preciate it!
Im only doing this cause I heard what that buffalo bob guy did to you...stuck a road flare up your bung hole..hoorah
I google searched your problem with no success. You may need to take it by a jeep dealer's service department and see if they can help....if it's aftermarket, try calling the manufacturer.
If your not sold on those suggestions, try the pry bar trick mentioned above. GOOD LUCK!

I had the same problem with mine ever since it was new! Try turning the key at the same time start turning the cap do this slow at the same time! You'll feel it grab eventually! If that don't work use a hammer!

Be careful with the brute force method of removal. The lock cylinder will let the top of the cap go, but it will still be in the filler neck. If it falls to where you can't get to it, it will be stuck in your filler tube and you'll pump gas .15 cents at a time until you sell the jeep.
I have similar probs with mine. What works for me is inserting my key, turning the key to the right while holding the cap so it won't spin, then while the key is in and turned all the way to the right I twist the cap to the left and it comes off.
Someone trying to siphon the gas or adding stuff into your gas. Personally on my 98 it's impossible to siphon my gas from my tank. There is something in the filler neck that keeps the hose from going into the tank.
