Gas tank skid?

Is the gas tank strapped to the tub or the skid plate? If its connected to the skid is there anything I have to watch for when lowering it?

It is strapped to the skid. You have to watch for the electrical, fuel, and evap lines, lower the tank a little then disconnect everything. Be extra careful with the evap lines, they get brittle and if you lower it to far you can break the fittings on the gas tank and that usually requires a new gas tank.

The electrical connector (on my 97) was very tricky.
I was a bit of a rookie when I lowered my tank - couldn't work out how to undo the electrical connector and ended up breaking it.
IIIRC there's a red locking tab which is the key to successfully disconnecting.

On early models, the connectors can be disconnected with the tank in place. Later models had the connectors on top of the tank so it had to be lowered slightly to get at them.
Not sure what year that that changed.
You may get lucky and have the early style connectors on your 99.

Thanks for the advice it really helped. I needed to replace the skid plate as mine was so rusted out I'm surprised it even held the gas tank. Mine also had the red locking tab but after some crafty use of a ratchet strap I was able to remove the skid without disconnecting anything from the tank.
