Hey guys, electronic question here. I got a new cb for Christmas and to install it I had to disconnect battery. Everything in my tj was working up to this point. Now with everything reconnected my radio and gauge cluster does not work. Turning the key will light up my seatbelt light, airbag light, etc. They turn off eventually but the actual needles do not budge and the radio will not turn on. Blinkers still work too. Thanks.

At this point check all of your fuses. Also, on earlier model TJ's they have been known to have problems with their gauge cluster. Pop the bezel off and take the cluster out. Make sure at the pins and plugs are clear if dirt and debris. Use a good quality dielectric grease and pally a little to the connectors before reinstalling cluster. I would do that if all fuses check good. Since everything was fine before CB install double check your work along with the circuits and fuses involved.

When troubleshooting a problem that occurred just after doing something else to my Jeep, I ALWAYS (or try) to retrace the steps that lead up to my new problem.

What did you do to install your CB? Does the CB work?

What did you disconnect? What might have you disturbed?

If you disconnected the battery to install the CB, it is highly unlikely that you blew a fuse as you have already determined.

Do you have a wiring diagram for your model?

Is there anything in common between the gauges and the radio? Did you accidentally disconnect the connector to the gauges?

My guess is you interrupted a ground wire somewhere. Sometimes just adding a ground wire from your new component to an already existing ground will create a problem. Or you didn't install a ground to your new component and it's feeding back thru the other circuit.
