gear change? 33 x 12.50 2.5L 4 cyl

i have a 98 tj wrangler with a 2.5l 4 cyl. i wanted to put a lift on it and was against the idea of putting 33 x 12.50 tires on it. but i seen where people said that you could put 4.56 gears in it and it would get it back to stock. i have put the lift on this weekend and just got my tires on. my question is, is this true and how do i know what gear i have in there now? thanks

you look at the rear differential. It should have an army looking tag on there..

Read that.. there should be something like 4.10 or 3373 or whatever.. 4 bangers usually come with 4.10s as Vector said.

4.88's and a true 33" tire will make your speedo accurate with your stock speedo gear. Or at least it did with mine, I had changed speedo gears when I went to a 33" tire and my 4.11's and when I regeared I was able to put the stock gear back in. trXus in 33/12.50x15 on a 15x8 at 24 psi

I have 4:88's with a Ford Explorer 8.8 rear end. It works great. 70 on the freeway in 5th with no problem. Runs at about 3200rpm.
