gear oil leak

I noticed the other day that I seem to have gear oil leaking from the rear passenger side, I haven't took it apart yet to look at it, I thought that the seal I would need was called the axle shaft seal, but when I call all the parts stores the don't have a listing on an axles shaft seal, they all seem to pull it up as a wheel seal, does this sound right, the part # they are all giving me is 9912 I think if I'm not mistaken, its a d44 btw thanks
