Gear ratio?

I recently bough a 99 tj sport, I was told it probably had 373 gears. I looked at the diff tag and it shows 307s. Does this sould right, it currently has the rubicon wheels and tires on it 245/75 16, 5th gear is useless going up hills on the highway, Im thinking of putting on 33s, what ratio would be best?

What motor and axle in the rear please. If you want you can run out put the rear on jack stands. mark the tire and driveshaft. Turn the tire 1 full rotation while counting how many turns the driveshaft makes. I am guess if it is a 4.0l it is 3.07s with the 35 rear.

It sounds like it does indeed have 3.07 which was a commonly installed ratio in too many TJs. For 33" tires and your 5-speed, 4.56 is an ideal all-around ratio for both street and trail.

I only have a rear D44 (with drums andn not disks). I wished I bought a Rubicon in 2006.

gear ratio

It has a 4.0. Would a programer like (edge etc.) make a big difference? I have a k&n drop in filter and magnaflow muffler. I was thinking about the trail master 4 in lift, good price. Any suggestions? I dont plan on any hardcore offroading, 98% street drivin. Thanks

Go with a RE lift or something else. TM doesn´t have a good reputation.

Such a programmer doesn´t make a noticeable difference. If you want the power back that you lost because of bigger tires regearing is the only way to go.

Yep don't waste your hard-earned $$$ for a programmer, K&N, etc. as they don't make any performance improvements for a TJ. Regearing to a lower axle ratio is the only way to restore the performance lost due to having installed larger diameter tires.
