Gear ratios again

Have an 03 with a 5 speed manual an 33's. I currently have a 3.07 rear end. 5th is useless now. I want to cruise 75 on interstate but keep rpm's around 2k. I am thinking 4:10 gears. I have a d35. I also need to get back some low end response. I do not want to take on regearing my self. I can have front and rear done for under 2k. I am mechanically able, but have never tackled regearing, Thoughts?

I also had 3.07 gears in 4.0L w/32 trans and 31" tires. 4.10 perfect for this set up. 33,s w/standard & OD will require more-like 4.88 ratio. You have a D35 in the back. I would not run 33's unless you only drive street and no hot rodding-least you blow up your rear axles.

4.56 is what you want. If you ever plan on 35's then bump up to 4.88's

He's not locked in the back so 33's will be fine on the Turdy5.

I off road hard and often, very hard, and I keep my D-35c just to prove it's not as bad as everyone thinks, I have 33"s with 4.88s, alloy shafts, Tru-Tracs, Superiors truss, and I wheel hard, but I'm not a throttle happy power-out minded person.

Usually it's a bad setup or bad driving that breaks a D-35, of course it cant possibly be operator error lol, so, you see where that line of thought goes on forums.

I run 4.88s with my 2.5, with the 4.0 4.56s would work just fine, but really it should be pretty easy to find another Jeeper near by with 4.88s so you can see how it works for them, 4.88 is a popular ratio on 33's.

Did not see which engine but as it had 3.07 probably a 4.0
I have 2 4.0 TJ manuals both with 33

98 sport has 4.56 and 04 rubi has 4.11

I live in mountains at 7000 ft and I will say that 4.11 with the 04 5spd and 4.0 engine and 33 tires is excellent on the highway and pulling a reasonable weight trailer

For trails I give edge to 4.56 but for highway use 4.11 is fine

additionally under heavy load there is less wear on tranny in 4th where front and rear tranny shafts are locked directly to each other which again favors the 4.11 for towing

You could be happy with either

Just remember you can make up for not low enough rear end with a simple downshift of the transmission but if you have too low gears and are unhappy with excess rpm at highway cruise speed in 5th there is no way to lower it without larger tires or a regear.

If you may go above 33 then probably dont want the d35 and want lower gears then 4.11
