so i hit a small wall about the size of my tire the tire is flat got home and change it , but the alignment id waaaay off to be straight the wheel is complete side ways . could be bent control arm i can't tell ands to much snow on ground to check for to long i di check though could find out anything unusual . except the drivers tire is over a few inches than the passenger here are the pics .
this is drivers look how level it is with the flare .
here is the drivers side you can see it is in line with the flare
here is the passenger side you can see how far it is out . they both used to stick out but now since the accident well you can see in the picture
by the way no damage to the body or anything . but does anyone know what this could be or has had similar experience ? i am taking it to my friends shop thursday to see but i would like to see what i can find out first . i do not want to go thru insurance but if i have to . well......
Take a picture (use your flash) of the front axle (from the front), showing all of the components (i.e. tie-rod, track bar, etc.) and post back.
Did you hit the side of the tire? The axle? What speed? Could be a number of things. Take a good look at your frame side control arm mounts as well as the control arms themselves.
Bending the tie rod will also also turn the steering wheel. You can try a alignment, reset toe in and steering and see how it does. Eventually you will need new parts.
My guess is a bent wheel as well.
I wouldn't do an alignment until you look at your tie rod and make sure you didn't bend it. Doing the alignment yourself is EASY too. Plenty of threads on it. Get that control arm (stock?) replaced first too.
I had same kind of mishap with a wall in a 77 pickup. It bent the leaf spring brackets over. It also bent the tie rod. Knowing what it did to that vehicle I would imagine both control arms are bent and hope the mounts on the frame and axle are not bent. I sold the truck still sidewinding from the leaf mounts bent. I made it drive straight again by fixing he tie rod by heating it with a torch and hitting a telephone pole with it until it was straight. Let it cool slowly if you ever do it so as not to temper the metal and make it brittle. Then doing an alignment. If you can do without driving it until you get new control arms there will be very little adjusting needed once those are fixed. If you must drive it you can align everything and roll like a sidewinder snake but I wouldn't. With all the snow and ice you have now. Edit. Seen all the pics added while typing. I do think it is just the control arms.
ok here are a lot od pictures sorry but enough to loo at to maybe figure out whats wrong to me the upper control arms look bent but i could be wrong because they could just look like that . also i did not see much wrong with the lower control arms , but they could be bent too . and the drag link look bent at the bend a little more than it should be i donut know maybe not but i was just replaced i am going to get and adjustable one instead of the crap after market i thought it was an hd but i put that on my other jeep . so any help would be great appreciated
also should i claim this on insurance? and if so should i take advantage of the situation and get a better lift . this came with a rough 3.25 lift when bought it , it sucks the shock are leaking since i bought it the geometry was way of tires rubbed i had to fix a lot . so since this an accident . should i put a claim in and get a new better lift out of it?
This is why insurance is as high as it is. People trying to stroke the company. Insurance restores your vehicle to pre loss condition. Your leaky shocks etc are not caused by the wreck.
I think the control arms are bent in those pics it also looks like the mount on the axle is bent. The other stuff is hard too tell but the paint not flaking off from flexing is a good sign. I would get a lift if you have the money. Should be able to bend the axle bracket back with some heat and a heavy mallet. Ps Agee with above for insurance. Plus likely to jack up your rates.
again look below i am not trying to screw insurance co over i am saving them money , if i buy a whole kit instead of replacing separate parts . the control arms are bent and cost more then it would if i buy the skyjacker lift 4 inch for actually 510shipped so i get all control arms replaced and a new shock and new control arms in back too . the insurance will save more this way than buying separate . and i called them and explained the situation to them they said if most of the pats are damaged like the control arms and stuff they will replace them but i explained that it would save them money to but the lift kit and they said if it is cheaper then they would rather do that they under stand it is all aftermarket parts .
so who knows whats bona happen
The reason your front axle is moved over to the passenger side is the front trac bar is bent. Since you are going to need some new control arms and some other suspension parts. Look into a other lift brands and compare what all comes with it. Try to stay a way from Skyjacker control arms. They ware out very fast.
here is an update for accident they agreed to do what i need because of all the after market stuff . so here are some pics . like i said to them it does not looks damaged but it is . here is the broken bent axle.
here is the jeep getting ready the for the axle and shock and control arms
they said this was fine til they saw the controls arms and shocks
new custom drive shaft
new control arms and d44 axle with lockers
new shocks and such
new axle
new 1.25 body lift and MML so the t case can be normal position again
so it is almost done can't wait to get it back . i have been ready my bike but still raining and cold lately so it sucks. i should get it tuesday i hope
