Grease and changing all oils

Hey all,

I've been doing some maintenance on my new Jeep (97 TJ), and I'm wondering about grease/lube points.

How many points are there? Where are they? Want to make sure I don't miss any. I've heard Valvoline or Mopar would be recommended? Anyone have a recommended procedure? Never done this.

I'll also be changing all the fluids. Front/rear differentials, transmission, transfer case, and engine oil (125k miles). Missing anything? Not worried about coolant yet.

Do I have to do anything with the wheel bearings? Or are those included in the grease points?

Any other bearings or anything I need to grease or inspect?

I use a grease that is listed as compatible with Mopar stuff.... Really it doesn't make a difference as long as you aren't mixing didn't types all the time.

There should be grease nipples on the ball joints, tie rod ends of the drag link and tie rod, and frame side track bar.

Unit bearings are sealed.

Fluids, coolant, brake, and steering also important if you don't know the age.

I would check all the u joints (front and rear drive shafts as well as front axle)

There are 7 total zerk fittings, all on the front-end steering components. Find 7 and you've found them all. Caution that not all greases are compatible with each other, I look for greases that are compatible with what Jeep greased everything with which is red. I use Valvoline grease that comes in tubes marked for Chrysler vehicles.

Hey, I got a question. My bro-in-law is ready to service his TJ five speed manual. The owners manual only references a mopar spec number but not a weight or type. The big box parts stores just give us a funny look, no answers. Is it just 80-90w? Anybody have input.

One thing to look for is that a previous owner may have replaced a driveshaft with a greasable one. There are also greasable sway bar links available. This will bring your zerks from 7 to 11. Just something to check for.
