Grease and gear oil in differntials?

So I took my jeep to the shop just to get the front pinion seal replaced since it was leaking, after I went to pick it up he tells me that I needed to add more gear oil cause it was low but then he told me to add two tubes of red grease and the rest of gear oil into my diffs and that will help to avoid any major wearing inside my diffs, he said he's done it to his trucks for years and that it keeps his gears more lubed and in better shape. But I had never heard of such thing... Has anyone heard of this?

Grease is not called for in the axles, stick with a good GL-5 gear lube as the manufacturer specifies. That "mechanic" sounds like some yahoo who heard grease was good from his buddy's uncle who used to work on airplanes or something like that.

yeah haha i gave him a confused look and just said thanks for the tips, he did only charge me 15 bucks to replace my seal and it looked pretty good but I think I'll stick to gear oil just like you say!
