Grill Removal

I want to paint my grill black, and I figured the best way to start would be by taking it off. Well, I was looking at it and I couldn't see anything holding it on but... itself. Do I only have to pry of the metal tabs to get it off? And I'm assuming you just pound them back down to put it on?

I'm no help. I've been wanting to Herculine mine for quite some time just haven't looked at how to remove it.

you must remove the fender bolts that connect to the grill
there is a bolt under the grill and you must unbolt the radiator and the ac condenser from the grill
it will then lift out of coarse you do nee to disconnect the wires from the headlights and pull the wires away from the grill

the metal tabs you are talking about is welded in its a complete unit

not sure if it is much different from the YJ to TJ, but the YJ has 5 bolts thru each fender into the grill. If you look inside your fender well you should see them, half inch wrench socket should do the job.
Weather forecast for tonight: dark.

You will also find a U shaped washer on each side to the fenders/grill. Oh, the grill is a one piece unit, it is a bit easier to remove the radiator, fan shroud first then go from there, not a big job just do it.

My opinion...I wouldn't go through the headache of removing the entire grill. I just masked mine off and sprayed it with DuraColor (the rattle can liner from Wal-Mart, etc.). It's been holding up great for almost two years now!

This is something I've been wanting to do as well... My Jeep is slowly transforming to black, but since I'm painting a new hood/cowl factory green, I'd probably just stick with that for now.
