Well I'm sitting in the jeep. It's broken.

I had a loud screeching at a light then, at the next one I heard a bang and felt grinding in the clutch pedal. Now at a stop in neutral if I touch the clutch I get a grinding in the pedal.

With engine off the pedal is rock hard.

Question 1. What is it? (betting on that little clip in the bell housing)

Question 2. How badly is this gonna suck to fix?

Hmm the only thing I can think of is maybe the Throw out bearing or shifter fork....

Sounds like the throw out bearing......my truck did the exact same thing when the throw out went out.

Thanks guys. I'm contemplating replacing the clutch and everything since it has 128k on it.

I'll go ahead and get one of those shift fork clips, a throw out bearing and a clutch.

Odd thing is the TO bearing has been silent until now. usually they are noisy little bastards (at least they have been for me).

True......seems like when mine went out, it was "squealing" about a week before it happened......

While you are in there, might as well replace the TO, the clutch, pressure plate, and see if the flywheel needs surfacing. Then things will be smooth as silk....just like new, again.

I'm hoping that this is why my shifting sucks to badly. I kinda doubt it, but I'm gonna cross my fingers that after I do this is starts shifting better.

If not, I'll resume my search for an automatic rubi LJ.

What u think?

Self destruct sequence of the throw out bearing apparently gets initiated once u replace the water pump.
