Unhappy Grinding sound?

2004 Wrangler X with a 4.0L. I don't know what kind of transmission I have. My clutch goes in and out of gears smoothly but when I put it in neutral, I hear a 'grinding' sound almost. I've had old cars that make weird noises but I'm 99% sure that's not normal for a 2004. There's no clunking sound or change in sound of it though. Just a medium grinding sound.

Any ideas? I'm clueless

i have an 04 X also, and when i am in neutral with the clutch not pressed, i have a slight grinding sound / vibration also. my mechanic friend said that is pretty normal so i have not worried about it. but since you brought it up, i am very interested in what the great people on here say/think.

All you're hearing is the perfectly normal sound of the transmission's input shaft and bearings spinning. The engine spins the transmission's input shaft all the time except when you are stepping down on the clutch pedal. Such sounds aren't usually heard in cars due to cars having more sound proofing and lighter duty transmissions.
