I have a 2004 wrangler with a 4 inch lift with 33s. I was in a bad car accident about two years ago when I was 19 and this wreck left me paralyzed from the waist down. Still busting ass to get back on my feet though! I always loved to be in the woods before I had gotten injured an always loved jeeping. I recently just got this jeep and got everything done to it within the past couple months. I had a garage install hand controls in it for me so I could drive it. The day I was able to actually get back in the drivers seat was amazing ! I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there that has hand controls in their jeep.
The leader of my Jeep club was in a bad offroad Jeep rollover accident maybe 20 years ago and she was also paralyzed from the waist down. She had hand controls added to her bad-a** TJ right afterward and she still wheels harder than most of us. You have a lot to look forward to & there's no reason that unfortunate accident needs to slow you down at all. My hat's off to you man, enjoy getting back out on the trail!

Congrats on gettin back in the driver's seat! And good luck on rehabbing! My old neighbor had hand controls on her car, but that was an old clapped-out mini-van...I'd love to see how they ran it on something cool like a Jeep! Post up some pics when you get a chance.
There is a guy in our Christian wheeling club that is also paralyzed from the waist down. When I first met the guy, he was in his Jeep, so I didn't know he was paralyzed. He was taking trails that I couldn't make it through, and had to bypass. The crazy stuff this guy is able to do with his rig was amazing. When I saw the guy get out, I about fell over. He was doing stuff that most of us couldn't or were way to afraid to even try. He spent as much time recovering us out of stuff we got stuck in trying to follow him.
So kudo's to you man! I hope I get the chance to wheel with you too someday!!
I was wheeling in a ghost town in Idaho, silver city last September and some Jeepers showed up and camped next to us. Talked to him about his Jeep. Later they invited us to go on a night run and had a blast. He was paralyzed in a motorcycle and elk wreck. All hand controls. the widest took my Jeep and I jumped in his. It was an amazing time wheeling with him. A year after his wreck. Congrats to you and "wavey"..
This is a pic of my jeep, it's getting some stuff done to it over the winter and I don't have it right now it's in the shop. But as soon as I get it back I will post a video up of how the controls work! Thank you guys for showing support!
You are an inspiration for your courage and determination. I applaud you sincerely. With such commitment and desire to keep jeeping, you remind all of us that life is most always best lived by looking to what lies ahead and striving to live well. Thanks for sharing with us.
Life throws sh!t at you and you can go down or you can go on. I'm happy to see you are making the best of it! 20 years in the military I saw many good, bad and great things. the great is the human spirit climbing higher than what it was before when it was considered 'normal'. 2 weeks ago i had a mini-stroke at the age of 40. Some things changed, still finding out some of those things. Odd how vulnerable you are, but how resilient at the same time.
You've dealt with it for 2 years, so you know how important family and friends are. You find out who your REAL friends are when your sitting in a hospital for awhile. Its great to see your goals and your outbound. So many get lost in themselves and cant break free. Can't wait to see your setup!
Sorry it's been a while but here's the pics if the Hand controls
I have a tri - pin on the steering wheel to keep better control while driving. And the hand controls are very simple. You have to push in for the break and just rock the handle back for the gas. Very simple! Hope they are alright pictures!
Thanks you! I trying to find a place that can customize a way for my seat to swing out of the jeep and down to the ground so I can transfer into it then have it raise me into the jeep. I'm not even sure if it is possible but it's worth throwing out there. It's just a pain getting into it. Lol
