Hard going into 2nd and 4th

I did a search and there was some reference to this problem, but I have a different issue/question.
I have a 97 TJ with a 4" lift. As far as I can tell, there has been nothing done such as a TC drop, etc.
It had always been a little tough going into 2nd and 4th; with 2nd being the hardest. Especially when cold. But manageable.
I recently had a clutch replacement done and now the problem has worsened.
Should things have not bolted up as they did prior?
I am going to take it back to the mechanic but wanted to get ideas/opinions on here prior to doing so.
I realize I can change shifter boots, etc, or cut around the tub.
My question is what would have made it gotten worse.

Thanks

Take the shift boot off completely and go for a test drive. That will tell you if the shift boot is causing the bind.

Many of us have replaced the stock accordion shift boot, with a $10 pleather one from Autozone...to allow full engagement into 2nd and 4th.

As to "Why?" it could be that your tranny mount is in a slightly different position that it was before the clutch install.

If you have a 4" suspension lift, you would either have to have an sye or t-case drop. Are you sure there is no drop? If part of that lift is a body lift, that could also cause it. Remove the boot completely and drive it as mentioned above and see if that solves the issue. Also check and see if there's a foam tube around the shifter under the boot. If there is, get rid of it.

Thanks for the input guys.
Detached the boot (of which the plastic base frame was broken) and just pushed it down inside the console. Smooth easy non sticking shifts now.
I will leave as is and maybe put the cover Dextreme has on; but I will need to get me a base frame.
